Is there any chance of this being fixed in Precise?
Looking at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#When , it's not
really a severe regression (2nd bullet point), but I believe it
qualifies for Obviously safe patch and Affects an application (4th
bullet point).

I'm not sure why this has been patched downstream in the 3.6 branch
since upstream commited my patch to both master and 3.6

The same problem appears when I open a file in Gedit with gksu, eg.
gksu gedit /usr/share/applications/gedit.desktop. See screenshot.
Using sudo is no problem, though.

The issue is with gedit --new-window running it from the command line
does the same
it also prints those warnings
** (gedit:17320): CRITICAL **: gedit_multi_notebook_get_active_tab:
assertion `GEDIT_IS_MULTI_NOTEBOOK (mnb)' failed
(gedit:17320): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_action_group_get_action:
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
I don't yet have a Bugzilla account, but when I have free time, I'll get
one (maybe this weekend), so I can report the bug upstream. If anyone
else wants to report this bug to the GNOME team, go right ahead.
