would appear that the CD image (ISO file) you downloaded could be
corrupt. There is an easy way to verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO
files you download.

I did the disk check before doing the install and it passed. I just ran
the md5sum check on the CD again and it passed, so I think that the CD
is fine.
