[Bug 995456] Re: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same VGA controller

2014-01-03 Thread dani_bs
Thanks for you help, I update my BIOS to A29:
command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
output:
A29
06/04/2013

File dmesg contains the same text:
[Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored
...
[Firmware Bug]: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same VGA controller,
please try module parameter video.allow_duplicates=1if the current driver
doesn't work.

I also boot again with version 13.04 I burn yesterday on USB and there is the
same result.
But I don't have problem: video works ok and webcam too. When I start using
Ubuntu, with 11.10 version, I supposed this message was important to be known
and resolved, but I never had problem.

So, maybe this is not a real bug and you can close it.
In that case, sorry I waste your time and thanks for your patience.

I attach dmesg of Ubuntu 13.04

[Bug 995456] Re: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same VGA controller

2014-01-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
dani_bs, thank you for providing the apport-collect. As per your
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/995456/+attachment/3133182/+files/BootDmesg.txt
 :
[0.101807] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored
...
[4.270883] [Firmware Bug]: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same
VGA controller, please try module parameter video.allow_duplicates=1if the
current driver doesn't work.

Hence, as per
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/latitude-e6500 an update
is available for your BIOS (A29). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and just provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 995456] Re: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same VGA controller

2014-01-02 Thread dani_bs
- I downloaded Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) Daily Build - 64-bit PC (AMD64)
desktop image at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/
- I installed it on USB drive
- I selected Try Ubuntu

It doesn't recognize my wifi card, I must connect cable to download the correct
driver, I will do that later so I can call apport.
Meantime, I attach dmesg file here.

dani_bs, if the issue was reproducible in a live environment, then
testing the burned USB drive live environment would be fine.

[Bug 995456] Re: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same VGA controller

2013-12-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
dani_bs, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel
available (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 995456] Re: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same VGA controller

2013-12-11 Thread Alan Pater
I ran FWTS on my system and it gave the following:

ADVICE: The ACPI video driver has found a duplicate ACPI video bus device for
the same VGA controller. If the current driver does not work, one can try to
work around this using the video.allow_duplicates=1 kernel parameter.

Note: Dell D420, Ubuntu 14.04, kernel: 3.11.0-14

i have the same problem. Is a fix known?

In the path you suggest:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-rc7-precise/

there is only header file but not image file.

[Bug 995456] Re: Duplicate ACPI video bus devices for the same VGA controller

2012-05-18 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only
that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking
on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the
bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.
