I fixed it by changing the model used by alsa. I don't use the
microphone, so I haven't tested if it is affected by changing the model.
Could you try to add (without quotes)
options snd-hda-intel model=z71v position_fix=1
at the bottom of the file alsa-base.conf.
Use the command
sudo gedit
Thanks a lot Dimitri, that fixed it! I had previously tried
options snd-hda-intel model=asus-mode3
but had obtained distorted sound. Now the sound seems to be working
flawlessly.
I will check microphones and let you know.
