No, it was closed because it isn't a bug, in the kernel or otherwise. /etc/profile is interpreted by the shell, so obviously it isn't going to apply before login. If you want to change the tty settings outside of a login, /etc/profile is not the place to do it. Try /etc/rc.local. ** Changed
