Sorry, I didn't realize that Hardy is using such an old version of miro.
I've updated to the latest version and this problem doesn't occur
anymore. How it still can play the video properly. It's just too slow.

I had a crash just before posting these but had been good for the
previous hour and a half watching a movie. Then once it crashed I tried

I have the exact same problem, but I don't think it's with only vlc. If
I have last.fm open, I can't play any movies with gstreamer. Even if
last.fm isn't playing any music, I still can't get gstreamer to play the
video properly, instead it plays at 1/20th of normal pace. Or if I open
the movies
Changing its package to kaffeine because it seems to be a kaffeine
problem, not a libdvdread problem.

I probably failed to make myself clear. There is, by default, no way to
launch the expo function of Compiz using only the mouse. To change this
users have to install an additional package and browse through its
options, which detracts from the feature's discoverability.
I confirm the identical behaviour on my Kubuntu 8.04.
It's a very frustrating problem.
The problem/bug came from Kubuntu 7.04.
Please consider this.

This was during an automatic upgrade from Gibbon to Heron the
upgrade seemed to run through OK... but when booted - although I could
get a desktop - ALL apps refused to work and generated various errors.
On clicking on the desktop icon the timer would be displayed but nothing

It's a standard ubuntu 8.04 upgrade from a bog standard 6.06 install
using the 6.06 packages. I did an apt-get update-apt-get upgrade too,
beforehand.
