I've checked out the jumper, it's correctly closed on MAster; the cable
has the long edge connector attached to the MB and the opposite side is
stuck into the CDROM, the central connector is free.
For the sake of (computer) science, I can try if setting it to SLave or
CableSelect makes it work...

My monitor can't display the startup screen - it hasn't been able to

Another thing to check is to try running a newer version of -nvidia. If
we know for certain that a newer -nvidia fixes this issue, it could
potentially be considered for 8.04.1.
