Try also to choose the Brother HL-1030 as printer model, using the hl7x0
driver. This driver uses Brother's proprietary printer language. Perhaps
it works also with your printer.

I agree. Many universe packages like blender, me-tv, xine, even gimp-
plugin-registry depend on this, and having it in multiverse causes these
not possible to install if one chooses not to use multiverse (like I do,
because otherwise some truly non-free software might get installed
easily).

See also similar bug #214727, the whole mplayer thing should be handled
at the same time probably.

I apologize for all the package changes. I had trouble finding a package that
uses Ubuntu to track bugs. At least that was the error i was getting. I finally
figured out I needed to attach it to the Ubuntu Project, then the package in
order to convert it to a question.

I had this problem with kernels 2.6.32-9-generic, and trying today
after a bunch of updates my older kernels failed as well. After finding
this bug report I removed the line in /etc/fstab and that fixed the
issue. I never entered that line manually, I'm not sure what added it.

Dear Chuck,
The reason is that the user you were running the command does not have
permissions to set the speed of the device.
right, but should'nt the package take care of this? i wonder why the
status is still won't fix?
