Forcing use of nscd is a non-starter at many sites. Aside from cache
staleness issues, and nscd's well known instability, there's also the
issue that nscd doesn't intercept get*ent enumerations so things will
still crash depending on which nsswitch functions an app calls.

Thank you for taking the time to report this crash and helping to make
this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1051982, so is being marked as such.
After talking this through with a few folks, it looks like this may be
fixed in some version of juju. Adding juju-origin: ppa to
environments.yaml makes the problem go away.
The issue remains in the stock version of juju for precise.

reboot with -vga cirrus can result in
Not sure what you mean... I basically worked around the issue long
enough to do the upgrade by booting with -vga std, upgraded to the new
upstream kernel, rebooted to make sure the new kernel works with -vga
std, then rebooted without -vga std and was able to reproduce it.

I've fixed this upstream in commit e599fed9, patch
Downgrading to stock 12.04.1 kernel seems to have helped.
