On what I thought was a somewhat up-to-date ubuntu 14.10 system, I
noticed that lxc was out of date, so I ran update-manager in a terminal.
After half an hour, it hung. The last line in /var/log/apt/term.log was

WRT @gerry I think that it would be nice if the same option also turned
on/off G_DEBUG=all. Which unfortunately is only an environmental
setting. So perhaps we could set Qt with the environment setting as
well. I've done that in my own setup with an Upstart job that is start
on starting dbus that
sync ./debian/user-conf/logrotate.conf from lp:ubuntu/upstart to the upstart
package used on touch

unity8 has a big log file, because qtmir has all debug logging info turned on
by default.
This can be changed just for unity8 by setting adding this env var to its
upstart job:
QT_LOGGING_RULES=*.debug=false
Alternatively can apply this policy for all Qt apps in the system by

So this may actually be a regression in systemd itself.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest
upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug
report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue,
and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

As a further note, the script by aztecjoe works around the issue just
fine.
I would recommend delivering it via an updated network manager package
and not waiting for network manager to have the issue fixed. If and when
the issue is fixed in network manager, the redundant restart should not
be a
