Thanks, this shows that new lsb-release has been unpacked but not
configured, then the package manager attempts to process the triggers
for plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text. This appears to be a package manager
bug (either apt or dpkg) for trying to do these operations out of order.

Yes, the problem started after I updated from 12.04 to 16.04. Problem still
occurs, and awkwardly exactly 20 minutes after switching the laptop on if

The "auto" fix works for me too. Having just upgraded an old Dell Vostro
v131 to 17.10, it no longer booted from battery but required the mains
adaptor to be used. The change noted in #15 worked at it now boots
correctly.

I'm not sure if we can improve that. The current message is somewhat
correct, changing it to "already installed" would be sort of wrong -
whether it's installed or not does not matter. What's mattering is that
these versions are supposed to remain installed, sort of.

I'm afraid that I am not an expert at Ubuntu. I think that I have
installed your test kernel correctly, but I don't know how to prove it.
I used sudo dpkg -i *.deb .
If I have installed it correctly, then it doesn't cure the problem. It
runs fine with noibpb, but fails in the same way if I try to

you have to do is to install old kernel 3.19 in Ubuntu and boot from
it(after clean shut-down). Because ubuntu r3290 pci had worked perfectly

About cgmanager: if we don't have it installed, it does not affect
memory of systemd-logind tool per se. What happens, IMHO, is even more
severe: we don't free/de-allocate sysfs cgroup paths for sessions. So,
in my tests _without_ cgmanager, after 8000 SSH sessions to my target
