I fixed the broken packages by removing (sudo apt-get remove)
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good and related packages - the very minimum so
that it doesn't affect the working of other applications.

Upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 on 29Oct2009.
When system starts with window manager as GNOME, opening any application will

Attached the dist-upgrade contents. BTW, I managed to solve this issue
by rerunning update-manager -d - check for new packages - Install
them.

install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation
starting gnome-settings-daemon resolved it. As dove_g did, I added it to
my startup. This is still a bug though.
