Disabling a kernel module permanently is not a solution, it's a
workaround. A very poor one at that since the module is specifically
targeted at the laptops that are experiencing the problem. And then
there's the problem that without the acer_wmi module my bluetooth
adapter is unusable too.

I find an easy way to re-product this bug:
1. Attach an external bluetooth adapter.

I choose to install Ubuntu 9.04 inside Windows XP Home. My notebook is

Ok, it took a while before the bug exposed itself again - at this time i
had six console tabs open, 5 ssh sessions to other hosts and one local
shell (all ssh sessions were started from a local shell). It looks as if

I experienced the same problem upgrading from Lucid to Maverick. I
prefer wicd to networkmanager, partly because it allows me to get
wireless access on some networks where network-manager does not. After

I was able to fix this in Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10.
What I did was went to the directory
/etc/udev/rules.d/
And looked at what files were there one was

This happens when you tick Install updates during installation of the
system. The installer first places the bootloader for current kernel at
BIOS; but if the Install updates was ticked, the system installs the
newer version of kernel and, apparently, does not the old one.
For example, the module
I can verify that this occurs, though I can't ever dependibly reproduce
it either. I have found, however, that selecting the save as menu option
with the mouse doesn't work, the keyboard shortcut (ctrl-shift-s) will
work. So some bug in the menus maybe?

@Shane I have bought a USB wifi adapter. Now, wifi work fine, but I can't
connect the Bluetooth mouse. I got a bad experience in this condition. Not so
much, sometime the display will mass up. So I give up Ubuntu within surface.
Looking for 13.10, or other Linux OS, such as Fedora.

Ok, I've pinned it down further. The bluez stack is so old, and when you
connect without paring, it incorrectly classifies it as a mouse instead of
a joypad.

Thanks. I just figured that if the source code changed, then the date
will also change. But, I am reading that the quick fix was to
recompile without the heartbeat extension and thus, no source was
technically changed.
