There is NO Question the two are very similar and I am sure related.
I do not think it is number of contacts related. I have a number of accounts
on a number of machines that I sync, including my wife's and she has only a few
contacts and that won't sync either.

In addition, Calendar does not work properly either. It will not sync
reliably. The accounts I had registered/created would not sync. I went
in to properties and Retrieve list, add password and normally it
starts working. Sometimes I have to recreate the account.

This is an old bug. I have since moved on to 11.04 on most machines.
The only issue I get associated with updates on all machines is
language. I delete Eng-US and use Eng-GB and ITALIAN-IT. I find most
updates fail... Otherwise it seems to work.

I did. not realise it had been raised as a bug. No, purge did not work,
nor any suggestions. In the end I compltly rebuilt the machine from
scratch.
I still note that sme ppa di not work, such Skype and others are flaky,
such as Vvvirtuualbox.

I use Googlemail.
I can enter events and meetings in my Evolution and they appear in
Google Calender, but IF I enter event via another computer/client or

Probably not. The only settings I added were the eMail account.
There were no other settings suggested. I tried the other options
mentioned by you and others, but there is not matching configs in the
settings...

Though I do not think it was the kernel that fixed it. I ended up with
problems getting the PC to boot and ended up reviewing the GRUB
commands. I found acpi=off and nomodeset multiple times... I
removed all references

installation had failed, but not clear why or at what stage as it was an

Petri Janhunen (janhunenpetri), I totally agree. Most of the solutions
here are beyond general users like myself. We shouldn't keep being
expected to become developers or tech engineers, certainly not if Linux
is to move in the direction it says it wants to and attract noobs like
myself. I

xfdesktop doesn't save the arrangement of desktop
Interestingly. I tried that. I had to create a folder and delete it
and then it saved a new config. Shall reboot and see what happens.

I have the same issues. I raised a Question on the Ubuntu Forum some
weeks ago but no one has sent any help, then I found this.. It is so
annoying Based on what I have read here, I am going to try deleting
all the conf files and so a save session, see if that works.
