it was always the proftpd-core config problem
the following solved it for me:
sudo apt remove proftpd*
sudp apt purge proftpd*
sudo apt-get install proftpd*
sudo service proftpd start
proftpd.service - ProFTPD FTP Server
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/proftpd.service; enabled; vendor
same bug now in 22.04

i have a similar issue.
ubuntu 22.04 installed, nvidia 510 driver on desktop.
after boot, login using any application the screen freezes. the timing seems
random, sometimes earlier, sometimes later.
can only do ALT-PrtScr-B to reboot.
the strange thing is: after this reboot, the screen no longer
