Re The Original Issue ...
Just to be sure we're both on the same page re mouse integration -
currently I'm having to Ctrl+AltL to release mouse to host, VBox
Here it is:
(assuming you're just after the graphics which is (I was sure qxl):
virsh dumpxml xub_64 |grep qxl
If not - here is the whole thing:

Following updates to grub-common,grub-pc, grub-pc-bin and grub2-common I
see the text at the bottom of the screen flashing just above in a
different font. Simultaneously the font of the grub menu entries changes
font.

Public bug reported:
Booting from Xubuntu iso in grub, or booting from iso on usb it's very
slow to reach desktop.
Also seeing the same behaviour with the Ubuntu iso.
Makes no difference if I boot on hardware or with a vm.
Takes somewhere around 38 seconds to reach the Try/Install dialogue.
