Please take this bug serious and report it upstream because whatever is
the technical reason for this Java VM behaviour - it needs to be fixed.
Running a usual remote multi-user x86-64 Linux machine I can confirm
this GIANT bug and provide additional information:

Working with Xubuntu 14.10 the xfce4-session manager fails to restart the
evolution mail client. It DID work in Xubuntu 14.04.
Already the session listing in Settings-Start up ...-Session does not list
evolution at all - but shows all other running
* I wanted to add that I dont want to ultimatively blame Java for this.
There is aweseome software out there written in Java. But this VM
behavior really did cost me a lot of time and nerves.

gnome apps and in my case only evolution.

Can confirm this bug. Sound via HDMI worked in 14.04 and 14.10 but not
in 15.04. Pavucontrol shows in the configuration tab a long list of HDMI
outputs claiming all are unplugged (compare attached screenshot).
Previous Xubuntus only showed a single HDMI output that worked.

Ok RESOLVED for me:
In my case a single cold reboot worked. Thanks for the hint. But
actually I am not using an XPS 13 but a totally different PC with Radeon
8750 HDMI. I joined this bug because I expected a generic problem with
HDMI sound on Ubuntu 15.04.

Yeah, surely an update of of the qalculate-gtk package requires an
update of some dependencies. I am just surprised how effortful all of
this sounds while a lot of other Ubuntu packages I know and use are just
updated with every release.
