This is also an issue when we have cloned displays.
We need to be able to scale down to a fake mode. My laptop screen only runs at
1080p and if I have an external monitor plugged in with a lower resolution (eg
720), the only valid resolution will be the lower one.

I was just including my example as another plus point for fake modes ("scale"
in this case didn't mean "output scaling".
If we had the fake modes then output scaling wouldn't really be required in
this case, as we would have a set of mutually inclusive modes to chose from.

Maybe in addition to position, we need a priority setting for each
indicator, and visiblity is collapsed in order of lowest priority first.
I would say that network indication has a higher priority than knowing
phone volume.
Only problem here is that when you open the indicator, things will shift
Either we need to store the message in the indicator, the service file, or
reinstitute the hard-coded empty messages per type of indicator (with default).

Testing in Ubuntu 15.04 (r168):
This problem seems to be related to mir dropping old buffers when the
visibility changes from occluded->exposed.
If I remove the "drop old buffers" code from
mir::scene::BasicSurface::set_visibility, then it seems to come right.

Start app with QT_LOGGING_RULES="qt.scenegraph.renderloop=true"
You will continuously get:

amongst many others, which indicate that the UI is being redrawn.
Even with occlusion enabled, we still get:

Volume slider in sound indicator ignores
The UI is stuck in a "waiting for server" state. We are using a live
slider, and constantly sending updates to the server. And since the
server stops responding to our requests (doesn't set the value to above
75% until we let it) we stick in this state for a timeout (up to 30
seconds), after which

It might affect quite a few aspects of phablet. To name a few things
that use prompts: Online accounts, payments & anything that requires
location services (camera, maps, etc).
So I would say it was fairly critical.
