Quick fix, do the following on both accounts you're using fast user switch:
1) Disable gnome-screensaver: System Preferences Screensaver
2) Right-click on Fast User Switch applet on the gnome panel bar,
choose preferences, uncheck Lock
It seems to require a logout / login. But menus shouldn't require such
a thing, isn't it?

You're right. I don't mean to offend anyone, but considering the fact
that vlc (at least by me personally) is used mostly in fullscreen
mode, I like to have the functions of the embedded video, even if it's
buggy. :)

while the release is not supported and clearly reached its
end-of-life, is really confusing. I consider this a bug. I wouldn't
mark it as an idea, since it involves fixing the Your system is
up-to-date in an end-of-life status.
