Today I installed the latest Ubuntu 11.10 and to my disappointment I had
to find out that this bug is still not fixed. I seriously hope this bug
can be fixed soon as a working webcam is essential for me and I actually
would like to stick with the latest Ubuntu release.

/~kernel-ppa/mainline - the v3.1-rc9. Unluckily the bug was not fixed in this
kernel version yet.
As the daily built of the kernel seems to be from the same date than the
release candidate 9 I didn't try it.

finishing the installation the desktop already behaved a little strange (for
example ALT+Tab wouldn't display the window switcher any more). After going

Found how to fix that problem: for some reason clicking on preferences
in the compizconfig manager disables the Unity plugin. Start Ubuntu with
the 2D fallback mode, open the compizconfig settings manager again and
enable the Unity plugin!

Just discovered that actually my webcam is recognized as a usb device.
The webcam of my eeePc is a Genesys Logic 05e3:0505 device. My research
showed that this webcam supports uvc and was well working with older

The MSI Wind seems to use the same webcam as my Asus EEEPC: Genesys
Logic 05e3:0505
It actually is detected (just type the lsusb command in the terminal)

Had a similar problem with my Asus EEE PC 1000H which uses Ralink rt2860
Chipset. Ubuntu 10.04 loaded two drivers:
rt2800pci
rt2860sta
Result was connectivity problem with many routers. It seems to be a common
problem, by blacklisting the rt 2800 driver I could fix it.
