I confirm this issue. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 (with all updates
installed) on Asus EeePC 1000H. I see garbage In all text fields in
Skype (password, find contacts). I've used Ubuntu 8 on the same hardware
and
I see a mess instead of text in all text fields in Skype on my Asus

Everything worked fine in Ubuntu 8. Is there any chance to get it fixed?

I've installed Rygel 0.12.x from Debian sid repository. And everything
works just fine. Thank you for the workaround. Perhaps, this Debian
package should be integrated into Ubuntu 11.10? Because currently
available version does not work at all.

I confirm that after upgrading to latest Karmik Koala (September 15,
2009) my system stops booting. Kernel is 2.6.31-10-generic. I've tried
to boot in recovery mode, but without success. The last lines in the
boot logs are:
Begin: Running /scripts/init-bottom
Done.

It seems that I have absolutely the same problem. My Karmik stops
booting after I've installed all available upgrades today. The last
message in boot console is

I'm using Karmic Koala (all updates are installed on September 10,
2009). The problem is that Totem (playing AVI file) almost always hangs
when I close Totem's window. The bug is not 100% reproducible, but 7
times of 10 it hangs. The version in Ubuntu 9.04 used to work great,

I observe two problems:
1) State of brightness applet is not synchronized with real monitor
brightness. Let me describe in details: Fn+F5 and Fn+F6

No, it's not a bug 222171. As I've wrote fn+f5/fn+f6 controls works
perfectly, but real brightness state doesn't correspond to applet's
state.

Please note, that some regression was done in Ubuntu 11.10 kernel. WiFi
works in kernel 3.0.0-17-generic and does not work in 3.0.0-23-generic.
So this bug is not about Ubuntu 12.04 only. Ubuntu 11.10 is affected

Intel 3945ABG WiFi adapter on board.
2) I have _VERY_ strange problem when I'm booting from USB-flash drive
(Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit
I'm not a kernel hacker, but I performed some research in Google, and
found that there are many people complains about iwl3945 module and mac
is in deep sleep error.

Christopher, I've installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 and WiFi still does not work.
To get working WiFi I need to go into BIOS every time before I boot and
performLoad default settings. After that Ubuntu starts and WiFi works.
Otherwise, WiFi does not work and Ubuntu does not see WiFi hardware.

I installed latest kernel upgrade for Ubuntu 11.10 (kernel
3.0.0-22-generic) and I have the _same_ WiFi problem an in Ubuntu 12.04.
WiFi works only in kernel 3.0.0-17-generic which was installed before.

I've just installed upstream kernel. The uname -a reports
3.2.27-030227-generic #201208101235. WiFi works! As far as I
understand, this is a kernel from Ubuntu 12.04, but it works in Ubuntu
11.10
I also tested kernel linux-headers-3.0.0-24-generic and WiFi also
works.

The problem still existed in December 2019 (Ubuntu 19.04). But I can
confirm that Ubuntu 19.10 fixes this issue. Most probably fix will never
be ported to Ubuntu 19.04 kernel.
