Hi,
I'm on Maverick Meerkat and seem to have the same problem. I filed a bug report
before finding this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/691272
Yet, although the above one-year-old comment says fix released - I
can't see any effect or sign of a fix on my (up to date)
IBM X41 thinkpad, ubuntu maverick meerkat default (ATI ?) drivers.
Happens RARELY, maybe 1/50 of all resume from standby operations.
Still - the only workaround I know of: squint and make out what's
going on to close and save and shut down cleanly; reboot.
