I encountered this problem recently. Displayed Cpu usage values are over 1100% regularly, which, I persume, are slighly erroneous ;-) Strange thing though is that my desktop system is not affected but my laptop definitely is. Both are running Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 only differences info:
