I had the issue. After trying different things
I created two files, vtrgb and vtrgb.vga as per https://www.apt-
browse.org/browse/ubuntu/bionic/main/all/console-setup-
linux/1.178ubuntu2/file/etc/console-setup (even though I am on Focal
Fossa) and placed them at /etc/console-setup/ .
I ran su
I get similar error on Ubuntu 16.10 upgrade:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
Setting up console-setup-linux (1.142ubuntu5) ...
update-alternatives: error: alternative path /etc/console-setup/vtrgb.vga
doesn't exist
