I can confirm that this occurs in Kubuntu 8.10 Also, when I put my laptop into suspend-to-RAM, it sometimes (but not always) puts the wi-fi interface into unmanaged mode. I will try to find out what particular conditions cause this, and see if the interface is then configured in
