[Bug 117883] Re: wireless interface not visible in network-manager
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I noticed that the package version your bugging is updated in Maverick. As well, The version of Ubuntu your using is in End of Life status. More information may be found at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases Please update to Maverick via http://mirrors.easynews.com/linux/ubuntu-releases//10.10/ubuntu-10.10 -beta-desktop-i386.iso repost a detailed error report, and update the bug status. [Bug 117883] Re: wireless interface not visible in network-manager
I can confirm that this occurs in Kubuntu 8.10 Also, when I put my laptop into suspend-to-RAM, it sometimes (but not always) puts the wi-fi interface into unmanaged mode. I will try to find out what particular conditions cause this, and see if the interface is then configured in /etc/network/interfaces . -- wireless interface not visible in network-manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117883 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 117883] Re: wireless interface not visible in network-manager
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 with the Kubuntu packages installed. I use switch between ratpoison and kde and so I sometimes manually configure /etc/network/interfaces. When I went back to KDE I had lost of trouble getting my eth0 and eth1(wifi) connecting. Under network manager it said that eth0 was disconnected and eth1 was unmanaged. I read this thread and decided to rename interfaces. I had to restart X to get it to take affect, but this gave control back to network-manager. I will probably have to write a script to change out interfaces when I switch between windows managers.
What to do with it being a feature? Or has this changed in network- manager 0.7? [Bug 117883] Re: wireless interface not visible in network-manager
But there is no easy way (at least in KDE) to return it to network manager's management, nor any clear indication of why it's not there, so I would say there's a problem somewhere. -- wireless interface not visible in network-manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117883 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 117883] Re: wireless interface not visible in network-manager
interfaces configured in /etc/network/interfaces become unmanaged by network manager. so this is a feature. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- wireless interface not visible in network-manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117883 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Seeing the same in knetworkmanager on Kubuntu Gutsy. Marked as Confirmed (was Incomplete), User copied (well at least a part, would have been better to attach full file) part of requested /etc/network/interfaces file. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- wireless interface not visible in network-manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117883 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 117883] Re: wireless interface not visible in network-manager
Here's what I've done: - Right click on knetworkmanager icon, click manual configuration - Configure eth0 to have static IP address (was previously set to dhcp) Now knetworkmanager no longer has eth0 disabled in the list of interfaces, and my interfaces file looks like this: [...] iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.0.11 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1 - If I then go back and configure for DHCP, the interface is still disabled in knetworkmanager. If I remove the relevant line in the interfaces file, the interface is still disabled in knetworkmanager, and I see no obvious way to get it enabled again. In fact, the KDE network control module is no longer able to enable this interface either, so I am forced to configure it manually on the command line. I'd suggest either giving networkmanager an obvious way to explicitly take back control of the interface (leaving the interface available in the list of interfaces would be sufficient) or removing the manual configuration option which just causes things to break in KDE. Re: [Bug 117883] Re: wireless interface not visible in network-manager
I'm using KDE, and I don't see any obvious way to do the same. On 6/20/07, ThomasNovin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: If you just enable roaming you get your wireless config back in NetworkManager. [Bug 117883] Re: wireless interface not visible in network-manager
I worked out this problem: network-manager ignores interfaces that are configured in /etc/network/interfaces, so when I tried to configure my wireless interface using manual configuration, the interface was disabled for network-manager. This sounds to me like a major usability bug because users can easily disable their interfaces just by clicking around, and have to manually edit the interfaces file just to get them working again. -- wireless interface not visible in network-manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117883 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
