[Bug 146741] Re: package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade:
hal-device-manager does not exist any more in hardy, it was removed upstream. gnome-device-manager is the replacement. ** Changed in: hal (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Won't Fix -- package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 146741] Re: package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade:
Just curious if anyone has tested upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy Alpha and are able to still witness this issue? Thanks. -- package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 146741] Re: package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade:
Well, I had a similar problem, hald returning 1. By doing: sudo hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes I have seen that it was stopping after a message saying that haldaemon group did not exist. So I did: sudo groupadd haldaemon Then things have begun to work from then. -- package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am having this problem after a gutsy dist-upgrade from feisty. Attached is output from script when doing the above command ** Attachment added: Output from sudo sh -ex /var/lib/dpkg/info/hal.postinst configure 0.5.9.1-6ubuntu5 http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10248635/typescript -- package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 146741] Re: package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade:
Added --daemon=no to /etc/default/hal, and got some more info from the postinst script, attached is the output from that. ** Attachment added: haldmoreoutput.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10248770/haldmoreoutput.txt -- package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 146741] Re: package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade:
workaround mentioned in this bug seems to work for me (though I did also chown haldaemon:haldaemon /var/cache/hald before, but that on its own did not seem to help) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/139155 -- package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 146741] Re: package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade:
This does not generally happen, thus I need some more information. Please send the output of sudo sh -ex /var/lib/dpkg/info/hal.postinst configure 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 (enter it in a Terminal and cutpaste the output). [Bug 146741] Re: package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade:
I'm having the same problem. In my case it's Gutsy/i386 not a dist- upgrade but a simple upgrade from a previous verson of HAL. Me thinks the Importance needs to go from undecided to critical. Anytime yesterday would be fine. ;) I can't access peripherals (notably an external hard drive) and other packages are depending on HAL and therefore won't install.
