[Bug 1491761] Re: Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02) not working in 14.04 and 15.04

2015-09-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
filip, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please
report this problem following the instructions verbatim at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel to the appropriate mailing
list (netdev CC Realtek linux nic maintainers)?

Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you
have made it so that it may be tracked via http://vger.kernel.org/vger-
lists.html . It can take a day for the new e-mail to show up in the
respective archive.

Thank you for your understanding.

switched to nouveau driver

filip@cq71:~$ uname -r

bug still exist.
networkmanager doesn't find any cabled network.
i suspect that my card isn't supported by the r8169 driver module or that the
specific hw adress needs to be added.

[Bug 1491761] Re: Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02) not working in 14.04 and 15.04

2015-09-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
filip, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for
testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions
are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, Y, and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

2015-09-17 Thread filip
i have the original hdd in a box so i can use it as an external drive.
If i update grub with the drive attached i will probably have the windows 7
entry?
Will i be able to boot the windows?
And if that works, can i safely run the bios upgrade or will it for some reason
fail and brick the laptop?

2015-09-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
filip, as per http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/Compaq-
Presario-CQ71-Notebook-PC-series/4004498/model/4039991 an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (F.23). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

work 100 %
sometimes it is very slow. Other times it works normal but still slower than on
my other laptop who is even older.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.2 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
