Here's my dmesg:

** Description changed:

  I have an HP Compaq nx9040 laptop with Xubuntu Gutsy RC installed. It is
  updated daily. However, when I shut down my laptop, the OS halts and
  exits out gracefully, but not my hardware. The monitor and hard disk
  seems to halt as well, but not the processor (still hot even after 2
  hours), fan, and the lights. I have to press and hold the power button
  for 5 secs. before it fully shuts down.
