Please press 'e' in the grub menu and drop the "quiet" and "splash" options from the "linux" line, then press Ctrl+X to boot. Then you should see better what's going on. Please make a screenshot then. Trying to fix the problem without knowing much, I reinstalled grub on external HD as usual and upgraded it again. and I am talking about "After selecting and pressing Enter to boot Xubuntu Xenial, it waits that long or sometimes even got stuck before booting". But not for Ubuntu (internal) or my previous linux installations (external). My booting is without splash screen because I disabled it in defaults, so it shows loading and starting services. And you are talking about screenshots? the screen remains just black in between. Or do you perhaps mean that there is some three-minute timeout in the grub boot manager before it automatically boots Xubuntu? Please be more specific in what you see. It might also be helpful to make a photo of the screen where/when it's stuck and attach it here. Are you sure you attached the right journal?
