I applied the change to qrtools.py (comment #3 above) and this solved my
problem. qtqr now decodes nicely.

And the fix is obvious. Go to the file '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-
packages/qrtools.py', the line 181 (as root) and replace 'tostring()'
with 'tobytes()'.
