[Bug 1663727] Re: 16.04.2 LTS (4.4.0-62-generic) now spewing EDID vga radeon errors

2018-01-11 Thread Steve Valliere
FWIW, I just finished installing Ubuntu Server 16.04.02 and then
upgrading it to the latest on Jan 11, 2018. I have a command line only
system (it is just a really basic firewall) and the keynel is logging
messages like this:

Jan 11 09:23:42 speedy2 kernel: [64428.303428] [drm:radeon_vga_detect
[radeon]] *ERROR* VGA-1: probed a monitor but no|invalid EDID

every ten seconds. I am using an old VGA monitor because I really don't
need a screen unless something goes wrong, but sadly, the only thing
currently wrong is that the kernel won't shut up about the monitor! So,
I leave the monitor unplugged until I need it in order to keep the noise
level down. I wonder if the radeon driver will ever be fixed for this?

[Bug 1663727] Re: 16.04.2 LTS (4.4.0-62-generic) now spewing EDID vga radeon errors

2018-01-03 Thread dann
I went ahead and tried to file an upstream bug at bugzilla but apparently this
bug has previously been reported and fixed.
Anydoby interested can go and read the link below.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34457

Basically this is what you have to do.
QUOTE
"Either upgrade your system to Ubuntu Oneiric or install the fixed kernel (with
backported kernel patches) from Launchpad PPA for Ubuntu Maverick.

Both solutions will fix the problem, as it did for the others having this
special buggy chipset."
END OF QUOTE.

Thank you.

By the way, how to I tag it "kernel-bug-exists-upstream" and mark it

I've recently installed Ubuntu 16.04.2 Server Edition on DELL Poweredge
2950 and the syslog is filling up with,

"[drm:radeon_vga_detect [radeon]] *ERROR* VGA-1: probed a monitor but
no|invalid EDID"

above message every 10 sec.

Just reading through I noticed that Joseph Salisbury wanted reporter to test
out the latest upstream kernel and never received the feedback.
Should I test out the kernel now? Or should I start a new bug report?

2017-02-13 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.10 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1663727] Re: 16.04.2 LTS (4.4.0-62-generic) now spewing EDID vga radeon errors

2017-02-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1663727/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
