Looking at the processes while running it appears both 'Ubuntu' and
'Ubuntu on Wayland' modes _both_ run Ubuntu on Wayland in reality. There
appears to be no regular X mode in Ubuntu 17.10...
Which makes this patch even more important.

Somewhat interestingly Debian 9.1.0 Gnome works in both regular and
Wayland modes with open-vm-tools-desktop 2:10.1.5-5055683-4, but Ubuntu
does not.

Correction:
Debian 9.1.0 Gnome with Wayland does not work after reboot (as I
expected without the patch), it appears setting the resolution while in
Xorg mode seems to have fixed it for Wayland temporarily.
Ubuntu 17.10 even when not in 'Wayland' mode does not work though.

Just wondering why open-vm-tools was updated without this patch as its
mostly unusable on 17.10 without it, certainly if you are running
regular Ubuntu with a desktop interface anyway.
