[Bug 1748644] Re: [snap] Fonts seem 'thinner' than they should be on Wayland

2018-02-14 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Confirmed. To my untrained eye this doesn't look like thinner fonts
(I've compared two screenshots and the same text in the about dialog
takes up exactly the same width), but rather like they're not
antialiased under wayland.

[Bug 1748644] Re: [snap] Fonts seem 'thinner' than they should be on Wayland

2018-02-12 Thread Ads20000
I've figured it out - it's because after installing the communitheme and
removing it, I logged into a standard Wayland session rather than the
standard Xorg one, the bug is actually that the fonts are broken in the
snap on a Wayland session

** Summary changed:

- [snap] Fonts seem 'thinner' than they should be

+ Edit: on second thoughts, I think the below seemed to change the
+ situation because it meant I logged into the Ubuntu session instead of
+ the Ubuntu on Xorg session. The bug is simply that fonts look 'thinner'

+ snap that's affected.

  After using `sudo add-apt-repository ppa:communitheme/ppa` and adding
the packages there, and then installing `ppa-purge`, removing the
packages, and using `ppa-purge` on the PPA, my fonts in the LibreOffice
snap seemed to break. I've given an example of 'a quick brown fox jumps
over the lazy dog' and a screenshot of a Writer document and its PDF
export in Document Viewer side by side.

Also applies to libreoffice 5.4.4.2 (46, stable) on core 16-2.31 (4017,

GNOME Fonts indicates that Liberation Serif and Liberation Sans are
still installed.

Seems to be working now actually but I wonder if it was a package I
installed (with the libreoffice Deb) that fixed it or if either it were
randomly resolved or 6.0.1.1 (48) fixed it...gonna restart to check.

Restarted and it's broken again, hmm.

This is my install and removal of the libreoffice Deb...but that doesn't
seem to be what fixed it since installing it the second time didn't
help.

[Bug 1748644] Re: [snap] Fonts seem 'thinner' than they should be

2018-02-12 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Can you (re)install the libreoffice deb packages and test whether they
are also affected by this font issue, or if it's snap-specific?

Can you share the relevant entries from /var/log/apt/history.log (this
can contain sensitive information, so you might want to edit and remove
extra entries not related to the community theme PPA installs/purges you
did)?

Have you checked that the fonts you used to create the document are
still installed and available on the system (i.e. that they were not
accidentally uninstalled when purging the PPA)?
