Public bug reported: Attempting installation of lubuntu 17 on a single HDD which previously had Windows XP on it. (I am attempting to erase that installation and install lubuntu). The grub boot loader failed to istall with a message to check /var/log/syslog. Which I do not know how to check after a failed system install. I shall attempt to wipe the disk with gparted and try again. Please help. Why would grub fail?
