[Bug 1751075] Re: Xorg freeze when use mpv or cheese.
Ven, given you updated to 18.04, stopping using unsupported PPAs/software, and the screen freezing after using mpv/cheese doesn't occur anymore, this issue appears resolved. Hence, I'll close this report. However, if you seek a resolution to the computer not booting unless using non-default kernel parameters, feel free to file a new report via a terminal: ubuntu-bug linux Please feel free to subscribe me to it. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1751075 Title: Xorg freeze when use mpv or cheese. Ven, while booted into Ubuntu 18.04, could you please run the following command once from a terminal by ensuring you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information: apport-collect 1751075 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1751075 Title: Xorg freeze when use mpv or cheese. [Bug 1751075] Re: Xorg freeze when use mpv or cheese.
Hello Christopher, thanks for your replying. Actually I am using it after failing with ubuntu 17.10. I have to use non-default kernel parameters, or my laptop will not boot at not. the screen will freeze with the "PCIe bus error" message. With these parameters, the laptop may be successful to boot. But still, sometime fails.Once it boot successful, the mpv is OK, the problem is gone. BTW,I am using the official kernel 4.15 now. What can I do further. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1751075 Title: Xorg freeze when use mpv or cheese. [Bug 1751075] Re: Xorg freeze when use mpv or cheese.
Ven, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Given you are using an unsupported kernel, non-default kernel parameters, etc. if possible, it is best to get the computer in a stable state without WORKAROUNDs/unsupported software, and then reassess this issue. Hence, to see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results? ** Description changed: - I have my new laptop, Lenovo 720s-13ARR shipped with the latest Ryzen 5 2500U, installed Ubuntu 17.10, it seems everything works except Wifi and GPU. After changing the wifi card with Intel 8265 and manually upgrading kernel with M-bab's build from 'https://github.com/M-Bab/linux-kernel-amdgpu-binaries'. Wifi and Gpu are working. But if I use mpv playing a video, when I try to resume the window from fullscreen, the screen freezes. Same thing happens when I use cheese, the camera app. Nothing I can do except a hard poweroff. After suffering that couple of times, I started to look for solutions from Internet. There are many error messages I can see if I use 'dmesg -l err' in the terminal. I cannot solve most of them, only use pci=noaer in the grub to suppress the "PCIe bus error", which keep increasing my "/var/log/kern.log" file size hundreds MB per hour before. - One more thing, if I start a reboot, the laptop might have a random hang on ubuntu logo screen. To avoid this, I have to poweroff first, then press power button to implement a 'reboot'. No idea for me in which part problem should be responsible for these failures. + When using mpv to play a video fullscreen, when I try to resume the + window from fullscreen, the screen freezes.
