About two patches "not yet merged into master" from first comment.
Both of them:
imsm: fix assemble with ppl during rebuild
and
imsm: update product name in error message
are merged now:

Don’t know if it is the Same as in the initial post: my boot System is a
scsci hardware raid and after loading Kernel Image 18.04 LTS stops
booting fall back to grub console. No harddisks found. Not the scsci
raid, not the two SAS drives. Booting 16.04 works fine. Looks like not
only software raid
Mdadm-4.1 is not yet released upstream.
Please confirm that patches listed above are included in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
