The bug has just reoccurred - I'm actually adding this comment whilst the Take a break! screen is displayed. ;-) It turns out that alt-tab works perfectly during the take a break mode, so I can even switch between windows. Alt- triggers the menus as well, so my work is pretty much unimpeded by the typing break. The only thing that doesn't work is the mouse. As stated before, this bug does not occur every time a break is triggered.
