I've made an attempt to fix the problem upstream, largely along the
lines of Sebastien's patch. I intend to release 2.6.1 soon.

Of course the actual crash is caused by accessing the "config" structure
that's likely empty after the failed function.

/sys/bus/usb/devices/1-2/bConfigurationValue failed ret=-1 errno=2
unsure what that fail but the change in that build should handle the failure
