For Bionic and Focal: apt does not yet support APT JSON protocol 0.2. So
no messages will yet be shown for esm-apps counts on 27.0.2 for Bionic
and Focal. So this hook verification today is a NOOP. Once APT gets it's
next SRU on Bionic and Focal, I expect we can validate
lxc launch ubuntu:focal
note the last line is what is injected by the apt-esm-json-hook "1 esm-
infra security update"

breaking riscv64 builds. Our expectation is to reject this current
upload bionic -> hirsute and we will replace them 27.0.2* uploads Monday

We have added the verification for Bionic and Focal using the package he have
uploaded in the staging ppa:

It should contain the same features as the package that is now uploaded
to proposed

This test failure is expected on all releases after Focal, since we dropped
32-bit i386 support on those releases. Therefore, we are not producing the
binary package for i386 on these releases.
Because of that, we believe that we can ignore those tests and treat them not
as a regression.

Adding the manual for upgrading trusty to xenial, where xenial will have
the new package version that is sitting on the proposed pocket.
Also, this tests is using the first approach to fix the trusty to xenial
upgrade issue regarding the status of esm-infra:
