[Bug 2143547] Re: Please remove php8.4 from resolute

2026-03-12 Thread Graham Inggs
The php8.5 transition tracker is all green, I don't see any mention of
'php' on the NBS report, and resolute_uninst shows only the following
line (repeated for each architecture):

php8.4 (8.4.11-1ubuntu3): libapache2-mod-php8.4 libphp8.4-embed php8.4
php8.4-bcmath php8.4-bz2 php8.4-cgi php8.4-cli php8.4-common php8.4-curl

[Bug 2143547] Re: Please remove php8.4 from resolute

2026-03-10 Thread Graham Inggs
I see the 'partial' packages are being fixed in LP: #2143732 and
appearing on the NBS report, and being cleaned up there.

I'll leave this bug for the removal of php8.4 only.

Out of interest, the following appears in the Debian FTP Masters'
REJECT-FAQ:

Your package builds binary packages not listed in debian/control. While
this is technically possible, it is not allowed: all binaries need to be
listed in your control file prior to the build (ie. that information
needs to be included in the uploaded source)

That was my understanding as well :-/

For transparency, that was discussed amon archive admins for a while and
this seems to be an unexpected side effect of the smooth_updates
setting.

It is today showing in uninstallability (as one would expect) which is
the same as you'd get via

I picked https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php-apcu over
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php-oauth as it only had a no-change
rebuild and still is in the same situation.

While it is odd how we got here, and we'd wish to understand what needs to
unblock to get them reported in NBS the question becomes when do we need to
remove them to get clean towards beta freeze"?

~ginggs: nice, that is correct.

> 22 packages in the 'partial' state because there are some binaries

Just to clear out the wording: there are binaries that depend on
php8.4-common and *different* binaries which depend on php8.5 common,
built by different versions of the same sources, given the older
versions were not removed from the archive when the new ones migrated.

And, this is precisely the list of binaries we want to remove.

My question now would be: do we *need* these in the NBS list to get them
out of the archive? Is it possible to get rid of these binaries (and the
version of the sources which builds them) on resolute together with the
php8.4 removal?

[Bug 2143547] Re: Please remove php8.4 from resolute

2026-03-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@Renan, ah, nice one, and no php-oauth didn't ended up in the same
situation, it's listed on the NBS report, see https://ubuntu-archive-
team.ubuntu.com/nbs.html

Now it still doesn't list it as removal candidate because it thinks php-
oauth still Depends on php8.4-oauth which I think is because

php-oauth:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2.0.10-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 2.0.10-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute/universe amd64 Packages
 2.0.9-1 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu resolute/universe amd64 Packages

or

$ rmadison -s resolute php-oauth
 php-oauth | 2.0.9-1 | resolute/universe | all
 php-oauth | 2.0.10-0ubuntu1 | resolute/universe | source, all

Which is getting me confused, I though a pocket of the archive would always
only have one version of a binary published...

[Bug 2143547] Re: Please remove php8.4 from resolute

2026-03-06 Thread Renan Rodrigo
~seb128 so, I thought that would be the case: at some point in time I
realized that pkg-php-tools was doing some magic, yes.

However, look at php-oauth : that is one that we have fixed, but ended up in
the same situation.
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/845748862/php-oauth_2.0.10-0ubuntu1.dsc

So while you are correct in the sense there is some mismatch, I still
wonder if it isn't something else because of this particular case.

One thing I can do is change d/control for all of the packages that were
just rebuilt, and then check if it fixes the issue.

[Bug 2143547] Re: Please remove php8.4 from resolute

2026-03-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
I poked a bit at why those are not listed on the NBS report, here is the
summmary of what the issues seems to be

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/844856692/php-apcu_5.1.24-1build1.dsc

Format: 3.0 (quilt)
Source: php-apcu
Binary: php-apcu, php-apcu-all-dev, php8.4-apcu
Architecture: any all
Version: 5.1.24-1build1

which corresponds to what debian/control has

so basically the archive sources index is wrong as a result,
https://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/resolute/universe/source/Sources.gz
shows the same content, but in practice that version build a php8.5
named binary (through some magic?)

which confuses the NBS report logic, it considers that since those
binaries are included in the archive Sources index then they are not
NBS...

[Bug 2143547] Re: Please remove php8.4 from resolute

2026-03-06 Thread Graham Inggs
$ rmadison -S php-apcu | grep resolute
 php-apcu | 5.1.24-1| resolute/universe |
all
 php-apcu | 5.1.24-1build1 | resolute/universe |
source, all
 php-apcu-all-dev | 5.1.24-1| resolute/universe |
all
 php-apcu-all-dev | 5.1.24-1build1 | resolute/universe |
all
 php8.4-apcu | 5.1.24-1| resolute/universe |
amd64, amd64v3, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x
 php8.5-apcu | 5.1.24-1build1 | resolute/universe |
amd64, amd64v3, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x

Interesting, I would expect the 5.1.24-1 binaries to be considered NBS
at this point, but maybe it is just the timing.

[Bug 2143547] Re: Please remove php8.4 from resolute

2026-03-06 Thread Renan Rodrigo
In all of the cases, the Launchpad page for the package shows the binary list
on top with the 8.4 version. But looking at the `resolute` version, you can see
the 8.5 binaries are shown. Not sure why it's not updated.
e.g.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php-ps
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php-imap

[Bug 2143547] Re: Please remove php8.4 from resolute

2026-03-06 Thread Renan Rodrigo
Here is a list of the packages with the respective apt-policy, showing both the
old and new source in the release pocket. This is a subset of the packages
which depend on the PHP ABI. See that
https://transitions.ubuntu.com/html/php8.5.html#good,bad,partial,unknown shows
some of those in green (new source depends on php8.5, old source removed from
the archive) and this list here is yellow (both sources present).

[Bug 2143547] Re: Please remove php8.4 from resolute

2026-03-06 Thread Renan Rodrigo
A couple packages from that list don't build unversioned binaries, but
it's still the same problem:

- Both php8.4-imap and php8.4-imapphp8.5-imap are installable, built from
different versions of the same source
- Both php8.4-pspell and php8.4-imapphp8.5-pspell are installable, built from
different versions of the same source
