[Bug 214413] Re: after upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04 cdrom won't mount

2009-01-18 Thread Mit
Update on CD issues.

Ok over New Years I installed 8.04 on a complete new machine at my
parents place (this machine has never run linux before just windows).
that happens to be the same make and computer that i have at home. a
Dell Dimension 4700, both with factory defaults. after I finished the
install I made sure I upgraded all the packages with the latest
releases. and low and behold, the CDROM still wont allow me to rip
and/or play Audio CDs. It's able to read the Track List in the audio
player supplied with ubuntu, but that is it. Same as the issue on my
machine I had originally upgrade from 7.10. I didn't try mounting any
CDs since the Audio CD portion still wasn't working, thus I assumed that
mounting didn't work either as before. I can try that the next time I'm
at my parents place and report back.

Hi,

The last updates did nothing for me.
Audio CDs play with lots of noise and DVD Video mounts and shows only the
audio_ts directory (no video_ts)
the dmesg output is a list of lines like these

[Bug 214413] Re: after upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04 cdrom won't mount

2008-05-20 Thread Rui Castro
Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem. This is a serious bug, it makes my
dvd drive completly useless!

My DVD driver doesn't read video DVDs, it reads Audio CDs with lot of
noise in the sound and mouting data cd/dvd fails with this message.

**
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
   dmesg | tail or so.
**

I think this is a kernel related issue.

I'm attaching this files:
  uname -a uname-a.log
  cat /proc/version_signature version.log
  dmesg dmesg.log
  sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log

[Bug 214413] Re: after upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04 cdrom won't mount

2008-05-18 Thread Tomás Vírseda
Hi,

I got the same problem in my friend's laptop upgrading from 7.10 to
8.04. Also, my friend lost it's NTFS partition (it became in FAT32).
After two days probing utilities from UBCD I got to restore the NTFS
partition and see the files inside but he can't boot on windows anymore.

Some info:
