axet (axet-l), this report has been closed since 2017. Hence, it is not
scoped to you, or your problem.

If you would like your problem addressed, it will help immensely if you use
Ubuntu with the computer the problem is reproducible with and file a new report
via a terminal to provide necessary debugging logs:

Update: It's better to leave the wifi card slot uncovered. When the cover is
screwed, it pushes the card that heels a little and probably the "Stradivari"
loses the tuning.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2014-08-28 Thread shasheene
A similar problem still occurs August 2014 on Lubuntu 14.04.1:

I can't connect to my dd-wrt router running an (older WEP secured)
mixed-NG access point.

As with some of the above solutions, switching my router from NG-mixed
to BG-mixed solves the problem, allowing me to connect to my router
using the problematic wireless interface, but I have some newer devices
that can't connect to BG-mixed access points so I'd like to make changes
on the device side rather than on the router side.

I've also tried the NDISWrapper solution using the inf files here:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=engProdId=944
(and I made sure ipw2100 isn't loaded and ndiswrapper is). The device
works like the native linux driver, but the problem remains.

I should note the linux-firmware package in the Ubuntu repository
contains the latest firmware, which is good given the official host
http://ipw2100.sourceforge.net/firmware.php has a dead link for the
download.

It's unfortunate that this bug is still unsolved after nearly 10 years.
My HP Pavilion zt3000 is an amazing laptop even in 2014 and still has
many more years of life ahead of it. So my long-term solution is to use
a small, low-cost USB nano wifi adapter and ignore the internal
interface. Not ideal, but it gets the job done.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2014-08-28 Thread shasheene
Actually Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 runs only 802.11b. I don't know why a
802.11b interface can detect the NG-mixed mode access point and fails
authentication BUT gives no clear error message. It was very misleading
that it was incompatible hardware.

(The options are to change to BG-mixed AP, or replace the interface with
either a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200/similar internal 802.11bg card, or more
cost effective a USB wifi adapter. I'm going with the USB adapter)

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2012-06-28 Thread apinunt
Upgraded to Mint 13 and the wireless no longer works at all. In fact Fn
F5 which used to turn it on and off with a light lit/unlit displaying
the state never lights up no matter how often I reboot or press the Fn
F5 keys.

The only Internet access I have/had when using that computer is via
wireless. Is this problem likely to be solvable?

2012-04-08 Thread apinunt
Same problem here, and sometimes I go for a couple of weeks with no disconnects
and then out of the blue they start occurring every 1-2 minutes.
I'm running Linux Mint 11 on an IBM ThinkPad R40, using Wicd instead of Network
Manager, and have to keep Wicd open to click on the connect button when
necessary, which can be quite often.

I see this bug report began in 2005, any chance it might ever be
resolved?

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2010-08-20 Thread Uwe Geuder
I have these log entries on my IBM Thinkpad T40. More of them occur
during heavy networking.

As adviced by Stefan in #65 I checked the IRQ settings in BIOS. (I
believe they were under PCI settings). They all were on IRQ11, too. And
I changed all of them to Auto. Additionally I turned off peripherials,
which I never use (serial, parallel and infrared).

The effect was that the following 4 devices switched from IRQ 11 to IRQ
5 (checked using the lspci command)

- 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M)
SMBus Controller (rev 01)

- 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM
(ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01)

- 0:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M)
AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 01)

- 02:00.1 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1520 PC card Cardbus
Controller (rev 01)

The fatal interrupts for the ipw2100 (which is still on IRQ 11) do still
appear. Maybe they appear somewhat less frequently than before. I have not made
any really statistics.

Kubuntu Lucid 10.04 with all updates.

Unfortunately my BIOS does not have the option to choose the IRQ and so
I cannot confirm this. But perhaps this is a good hint for the
developers of ipw2100 to check the IRQ auto-configuration?

2010-07-04 Thread Stefan Wagner
Most time I use a wired connection at home, but now, on hollidays, I
experimented again with ipw2100 and found out: my bios-settings where
IRQ11 for all interrupts.

So I changed them in the BIOS from 11 to 'AUTO', and now it works.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2010-06-21 Thread Mauricio Farell Perezgrovas
This is a very old bug and I don't think it will ever get fixed. I have
been using ndiswrapper with the windows drivers (with ipw2100
blacklisted) with very good results and very few problems:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=engProductFamily=Wireless+NetworkingProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+WiFi+ProductsProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+PRO%2fWireless+2100+Network+Connection

I hope this helps...

Cheers
SuperMau

2009-12-21 Thread Stefan Wagner
@Kay: If you don't use wireless, you may get rid of the message by
deactivating wlan in the bios, which most laptops support - maybe as
part of 'interface security' or 'power saving'.

Or you may list ipw2100 in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf to prevent it
from beeing loaded at all.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2009-11-20 Thread hoover
I'm also seeing problems on my T41 (ibm thinkpad). Linux Mint 7 works ok
most of the time (based on 9.04), while both vanilla ubuntu 9.04 and
9.10 will *not* work. Strangely enough, Mint 8 RC1 (based on 9.10) also
*doesn't work, so it seems to be bug compatible with 9.10.

Let me know if you need more info and I'll be happy to help.

I'm running jaunty with ipw2100 on a samsung P35 and the bug is still present.
Wlan is working but only if my router is set to 802.11b and I'm excluding
notebooks with faster wlan devices. When I set the router to mixed mode
(802.11b/g) the intel wireless card 2100 cannot connect to the wlan.

2009-06-21 Thread EvanCarroll
** Description changed:

+ / ATTENTION
+ I believe this issue is specific to the error that a chipset that is not
802.11G capable will return when it picks up an a beacon from a router that is
not mixed-mode, but 802.11G specific. Please verify. Remove mixed-mode from
your G routers, and see if you can get this repeated. Then add back mix mode
and see if it goes away and if you're connected with 802.11B.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2009-05-24 Thread Mr. Mike
As the kernel bugs are now being reported upstream ( earlier post Launchpad
Janitor wrote on 2008-12-23: Kernel team bugs ), is anyone who can help even
going to be checking this thread?
Also, is it some sort of repeated regression? It was fixed late into a 2.6.27
Intrepid release (my earlier post) but then broke again in the first Jaunty
2.6.28.

Oh how I wished I would have kept track of the kernel-versions so I
could diff the code now to see how they fixed it.

2009-05-13 Thread Stefan Wagner
I can confirm this bug for T41 with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, since about one
week.

The wlan is open and router is an arcor-easy-box a800. The second laptop with
ipw2200 works fine. Since about one week the connection is often dropped, but
most times I can reestablish it, but often for a few minutes only - then the
connection is dropped again.
The distance to the box is a few meters only. The neighborhood is covered with
foreign WLANs (all of them wpa2-secured).
But this isn't new and the problems didn't exist for the two months before.
(before that, I didn't used wlan, but classic eth).

Re: [Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2009-03-10 Thread Mr. Mike
I am now using Intrepid 2.6.27-11-generic and the ipw2100 driver IS
working.
In a recent, previous 2.6.27 version of the kernel, it was NOT working.
But prior to that, it WAS working. So... something about this drive is
inconsistent.

Hopefully, this is some sort of clue to the problem.

the issue (unlike the attached bugzilla report which seems to be
triggered by traffic). This issue has been happening while the only
network application active is pidgin. Sometimes it happens once every 2
or 3 minutes, other times it seems t go for several hours without
occurring.

I have been running the alpha for quite some time and this seems to be a
recent issue. I will try downgrading to and earlier jaunty kernel
release to see if this still happens

I have changed the Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless Mini PCI adapter to an
Atheros wifi-card.
After that change no problems at all.
So dont try too much with the Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless Mini PCI adapter.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-12-03 Thread Olof Carlqvist
I have two Thinkpad X31 with Ubuntu 8.04 installed.
They have different wifi-cards

One with:
Ambit Microsystems Corp. Thinkpad 11 b/g wireless Mini PCI adapter.
With that laptop I have no connections problem to the wifi-router.

Other one with:
Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless Mini PCI adapter.
Here I cannot connect when the wifi-router is locked with password.

Unlocked wifi-router work without problem.
As soon as I lock the router with password syslog says.
ipw2100: Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.
And I cannot ping the IP-adress of the router.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-11-26 Thread Thilo Uttendorfer
I can confirm the behaviour that Mr. Mike descibed on 2008-11-16 [1]
with my HP nc4010.

Ubuntu Hardy worked without problems, Windows Vista, too (dual boot
system). After updating to Intrepid I had some problems with network-
manager-kde (I have kubuntu). I switched to network-manager-gnome which
worked at the beginning. But after a few days, I cannot connect to
wireless lans anymore and I see the Fatal interrupt. Scheduling
firmware restart messages.

Reloading the module does not help, booting the 2.6.24 kernel from hardy
does not help, even in Windows Vista wireless is no more working.

Thanks for any help, let me know if I should post more details.

My ipw2100 works fine in intrepid with wireless sequrity on my T41.
The problem I'm having are the fatal irq resets.

Then I remembered where the firmware was installed in /lib/firmware
/$KERNEL-VERSION

The 2.6.27-7 version didn't have the ipw2100 firmware, so I copied it
over from 2.6.42-21...

cp 2.6.24-21-generic/ipw2100-1.3* 2.6.27-7-generic/

Then reloaded the ipw2100 module.

At this point the card started up fine and I was able to connect to my
WPA2 authenticated access point with out any problems.

I'm not sure if I should be using that version of the firmware, but as
long as this bug goes away, I really don't care. I will keep an eye out
for the Fatal Interrupt error and report whether or not the problem
persists.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-09-22 Thread Joel Martin
I just recently installed Hardy on a Compaq X1000 that has an ip2100. I
have a similar set of symptoms: every now and then the Network Manager
shows that the connection is gone (0%) and this usually lasts for 2-15
seconds before it recovers. Sometimes it has to go through the whole re-

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-09-11 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Hi all. This bug is ancient but PLEASE NOTICE the following, maybe
somebody should report upstream (I don't even have the time to write
this :)

I discovered this bug yesterday. I have an old laptop running ipw2100
and connected to any kind of network. Then yesterday I couldn't and
discovered this scheduling firmware restart in the logs. This machine
has windows, I rebooted and... IT DOES NOT WORK UNDER WINDOWS, TOO! So
this must be a problem of the firmware. Can somebody confirm that it
doesn't work under windows, too? If so, it is intel (if they care at
all) that has to upgrade the firmware. I will try tonight if getting far
from the AP helps.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-08-28 Thread Leann Ogasawara
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-
image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and
test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer
2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4.
Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced.
You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the
bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please
open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the
2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please
specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26
kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-06-28 Thread Børge Berg-Olsen
I have the same on my Dell D800 with Intel Pro 2100. I was not able to
get it to work with WPA-PSK. In order to test I created a
wpa_supplicant.conf file and started the wireless network manually. I
indeed got the same error messages as you get:

ipw2100: Fatal interrupt: Scheduling firmware restart

I then started to play with the signal strength setting on my Cisco
ap1231 access point. To no avail. The AP has a b/g radio in it, so I
decided to turn off all but 1 and 11 mbit/s speeds and leave the other
options as enabled, but only 1 and 11 required. The link came straight
up. Before that I had all speeds set to required. So it seems like there
is something fishy about speed negotiation when you're running a 802.11g
network.

I've attached the output of:

uname -a uname-a.log
cat /proc/version_signature version.log
dmesg dmesg.log
sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log

2008-05-01 Thread Mathieu Wache
As mentioned above by moniker, disabling Frame Burst on the access
point solved the problem right away for me (Linksys WRT54G running DD-
WRT).

2008-03-17 Thread makangus
Confirmed for Hardy Alpha 6. After a long time trying to figure it out.
Reloading the driver seems to do the trick for me.

sudo modprobe -r ipw2100
sudo modproble -a ipw2100

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-03-12 Thread John Carlyle-Clarke
I mailed the driver contact at Intel with a link to this page and to
their bugzilla link I gave above, just saying that a lot of people had
problems and were keen to contribute to a fix if we could.

I got a mail back saying:-

A community member recently backported a fix for RX overrruns in the ipw2200
driver. I assume the same problem may exist in the ipw2100
driver. If you are interested you can try to backport the fix to the ipw2100
driver ... details are here:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-wirelessm=120302948521611w=2

This is beyond my skills but might be useful to someone?

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-03-07 Thread Enrico M.
I can confirm, that this problem occurs on the same machine as reported
above (Samsung X11) using OpenSuse 10.2. Also the Fabio-workaround works
there. So this is really an ipw2100 problem, rather than an ubuntu
problem.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-03-07 Thread Leann Ogasawara
As Brian and Enrico have pointed out, this is a known issue upstream.
However, it seems the upstream bugzilla report has not had a comment
since almost 2 yrs ago. It would be helpful if someone still
experiencing this issue would post that this is still an issue to the
upstream bug report. It would also be helpful to probably add the
output of 'modinfo ipw2100' so they can see the version of the driver
you are running etc. I've assigned this to the ubuntu-kernel-team so
that they are aware of the issue upstream and needs to be resolved
there. Thanks.
