This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

I have this problem in a Dell Latitude X300 on Intrepid; the
ac97_quirk=hp_only fixes it for me.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

Hi, I just wanted to comment that the same problem, as accounted by the
first post (Carthik Sharma on 2006-05-23) happens to me with Gutsy on a
Dell Latitude D600.
ac97_quirk=hp_only did not work for me.

I also have a D600 and whats also strange there is that when I change
from ALSA to OSS mixer in the GNOME volume applet, I have a PCM-2 slider
which controls the volume of only the headset, not the integrated
speakers.

I'm using Kubuntu Edgy in my notebook (an Acer TravelMate 2313LCi) and
had more permanent volume issues: the headphone slider always controlled
the system volume, even with no headphones plugged in. So, when using
the volume keys in the keyboard, everything worked as expected, except
that the
