Ok. This is not a bug (although I don't know why it happened in Intrepid and not in Hardy. Do to: Preferences - Appearance - Customize - Colors - Tooltips Make sure the background isn't set to black. I have noticed the same problem on my system. I did an upgrade from Hardy and I am using my existing .gnome, .gnome2, etc config directories.
