Can someone still reproduce this on Ubuntu 17.10 or 18.04? If so then it
might be worth filing an upstream bug here:

Reported this 4 years ago and is still an issue.

Today I tried to copy a 4.6 GB iso file onto a pendrive, after 15
minutes of file transfer it failed miserably raising an error that could
have been predicted earlier

- Copying +4gbs file on fat32 should be advised earlyer
+ Nautilus allows copy +4gb file on fat32 filesystem
