Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) reached end-of-life on April 30, 2011.

This is still an issue for me in Trusty.  I left my machine on overnight and 
pavucontrol was using 3GB of memory when I got back.
OS: Lubuntu 14.04 x86_64
Pulseaudio version: 1:4.0-0ubuntu11
Pavucontrol version: 2.0-2
