Question: Has this fix gone into the edgy repositories yet? I installed a newer kernel version via adept...(I'm running edgy) and noticed the error printing has slowed down a bit. This is better...but I think it would be best (in my opinion) to either direct errors to one specific virtual console *like the last one* or have repeating errors stop repeating after a certain amount of times. It has slowed down as I said...a few seconds or so...but still, it repeats over and over and doesn't seem to help a whole lot =\. Doesn't seem like the best fix. Or..it may not even be committed to the edgy repositories and I don't know what I'm talking about! Oh, come on, we should not mandate to write specifications how to solve bugs. That's why we have a bug tracker for, which is a good place to discuss bug solutions. Hey Martin, This is a request to change the default settings of sysklogd. It has nothing to do with the kernel, so I have changed the package setting. As a request to change defaults, I think it goes in specifications, though if you still think it's a bug, I'm not going to reject it again. Joe, if you're out there, try filing this as a feature request for sysklogd. Actually, I'm not sure how to make a feature request. Could you direct me to that, please? I do see this as a bug though..but maybe it isn't technically speaking? I guess it strikes me as a bug because it makes the virtual console unusable -- making them useless. If a problem goes down, I can't see what I type...because the error message repeats over and over. To request that sysklogd not flood every virtual console, write a specification here: https://launchpad.net/products/sysklogd/+addspec I've already posted some links to pages detailing how to write a specification (are you looking at the launchpad page, or just leafing through your email?), if the form has you confused. If you want to discuss the issue on IRC, the people in #ubuntu on freenode would love to help you fill out a specification. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this actually is a bug. I think it's a bad default setting for sysklogd, but I don't know where it is in the syslog configuration. At any rate, you will need to find somebody to confirm it as a bug if you think it's a bug.
