[Bug 58603] Re: Installing gfs-tools drags in linux-image-2.6.15-23-server, even when linux-image-2.6.15-26-server is installed

2016-09-20 Thread Joshua Powers
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. In an effort to keep an up-to-date list of bugs to work I
have reviewed this report to verify it still requires a fix and it
occurs on a supported version of Ubuntu.

It appears that the source package redhat-cluster-suite is in precise,
however the binary package gfs-tools is not.

It is unfortunate that we were unable to resolve this defect, however
there appears to be no further action possible at this time. I am
therefore moving the bug to 'Won't Fix'. If you disagree or have
additional details, please feel free to add a comment and then change
the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

** Changed in: redhat-cluster-suite (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix

[Bug 58603] Re: Installing gfs-tools drags in linux-image-2.6.15-23-server, even when linux-image-2.6.15-26-server is installed

2006-09-22 Thread Fabio Massimo Di Nitto
This is VERY strange...

Package: gfs-tools
Source: redhat-cluster-suite
Version: 1.20060222-0ubuntu6
Priority: optional
Section: admin
Maintainer: Fabio M. Di Nitto [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.4-1), psmisc, rhcs-modules-4

as you can see gfs-tools does not depends on the kernel, but on rhcs-
modules-4 that is Provided by kernel -server images and both -23- and
-26- Provides: rhcs-modules-4.

I think it's only apt-get being confused because kernel -23 and -26 are
two different packages and they are not seen by apt as one being the
next version of the other.

I will still look into it, but i am pretty sure you are able to rekmove
-23- safely

And, BTW, indeed it is possible to remove the -23 package after it gets
pulled in.

It looks like it's apt getting confused. Here's are two cases that I get
on my dapper box:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo apt-get install gfs-tools linux-server
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  linux-image-2.6.15-23-server linux-image-2.6.15-27-server linux-image-server
Suggested packages:
  linux-doc-2.6.15 linux-source-2.6.15
Recommended packages:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  gfs-tools linux-image-2.6.15-23-server linux-image-2.6.15-27-server
  linux-image-server linux-server
0 upgraded, 5 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
Need to get 46.4MB of archives.
After unpacking 135MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

As you can see, it depends on the order of arguments to apt-get
install.
