Setting to linux (kernel) , Jakob can you test this behaviour on the latest
release (natty) and see if it is sorted out or do you have to blacklist the
tpm_tis.
Cheers

Here's a workaround that worked for me:

Add
blacklist tpm_tis
to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

You can find out more information here:

Dear Ubuntu-developers, up to the update 10.04 it works great, why do you

I also have a TravelMate 6592G and a recent Ubuntu 10.4 update cause
this issue. Upon boot, I get the Ubuntu splash screen briefly, then it
goes to the console based login prompt. After a few minutes, X server
finally kicks in and displays the graphical login prompt. Everything is
normal after that. I am running 64 bit Ubuntu 10.04.

[Bug 631933] Re: X freeze during boot after 10.04 LTS upgrade to 10.10 Beta

2010-10-15 Thread Gustav Botes
Hi,
I have got the same problem as Jacob. I am also using a Acer Travel Mate 6592G
running Ubuntu 10.04. I have loaded updates earlier this week and since have
the exact same problem getting the tpm_transmit tpm_send: error 4294967234.
My laptop starts up then gives me a black screen with a login prompt. When I
leave it for about 3-5 minutes it continues to flash another error code and
then only starts the normal X window. After that I can sign in and work
normally.
Is there any resolution to this problem?

Gustav

[Bug 631933] Re: X freeze during boot after 10.04 LTS upgrade to 10.10 Beta

2010-09-08 Thread Jakob
Hi Kurt!

I started the computer without the usplash according to your
instructions. It's still freezing during boot... for a while that is.
While I was attaching it to the wired network and logging in through ssh
from another computer it all of a sudden unlocked and I was prompted
with a standard headless (no gui/X) log in view.

The timeout could have been about a minute or so. And the output on the
screen looks something like:

+ a few more lines similar to the last one that I couldn't find in any
log file, followed by the standard text mode log in prompt.

I entered my username and password and after that I entered startx. When
doing so, it says:

2010-09-08 Thread Jakob
I've been looking more into this and this is what I've done.

1) I uninstalled the fglrx package through apt-get purge fglrx ant
tried to start in low graphics mode. Still no progress.

2) I reinstalled the fglrx package through apt-get and noticed that it
failed to install fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle.

3) I did a recovery boot and then a dpkg repair. The computer did a
massive upgrade. I noticed that it upgraded some xserver-xorg-video-
ati and xserver-xorg-video-radeon packages among others. It failed to
install fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle again.

Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. In order
to determine if this issue is usplash related, please boot your computer
with usplash disabled and then shutdown to see if you can reproduce the
issue? To disable usplash for a single boot, follow these steps:

1. Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu.
2. Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press e to edit it.
3. Select the linux line and at the end of the line, remove splash and
quiet.
5. Type ctrl + x to boot the custom boot line.
